This book is a special gift from Horseshoe Crab Research Group (HCRG), UMT, narrating the journey of horseshoe crabs research through a Translational Research Project. Beginning in 2017 through 2020, HCRG worked hand in hand with communities from Setiu Wetland and Kuala Kemaman, Terengganu, leaving behind colourful memories of the collaborations.

The project focused on three major components: biotechnology, ecology and conservation, particularly of the coastal horseshoe crab species Tachypleus gigas. It represents the HCRG aspiration to contribute towards improving the livelihoods of the local communities via sustainable management of the horseshoe crab populations especially in Terengganu waters.

Eleven chapters of this book highlighted the importance of horseshoe crabs to mankind, especially their unique blood for endotoxin detection, their ecosystem services and the conservation activities. This book also provided evidence of how sustainable management of natural resources would benefit not only the ecosystem, but also improve thel ivelihood of the related communities.

Series of awareness campaigns involving youngsters and adults from the community were among the steps initiated by HCRG to conserve horseshoe crabs. This book is intended to inspire researchers to transfer their scientific knowledge to local communities, and to inspire public on their big role in keeping our natural resources well protected.
